From Chaos to Calm: A Feng Shui Guide for the Modern Home

Ever walk into a room and feel... off? Like something's not quite right, but you can't put your finger on it?

I've been there. We all have.

That's exactly why I'm excited to introduce you to Kelly Nguyen Davlos, a certified Feng Shui practitioner and the founder of vitaliCHIi Feng Shui. Kelly's approach to mindful, modern Feng Shui blends beautifully with Saga Interiors’ design philosophy; creating spaces that not only look good, but feel balanced and energetically aligned (be sure to follow her @vitalichifengshui for daily tips ).

But first, what is Feng Shui, really? Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art and science that means “wind and water.” At its core, it’s about harmonizing your surroundings to support your well-being, relationships, and personal growth. The flow of energy; or chi through a space affects everything from how well you sleep to how focused you feel at work. When chi is blocked, stagnant, or moving too fast, you may feel the effects emotionally, mentally, or physically. When chi flows with intention, it can uplift your entire life.

One of the foundational principles of Feng Shui is the balance of the five elements.

The Five Elements

Wood -  Growth, Vitality, Creativity
Plants, vertical lines, greens and teals. Perfect for offices or anywhere you want to feel motivated.

Fire - Passion, Visibility, Recognition
Fire brings warmth, inspiration, and the energy of transformation. It helps activate visibility, recognition, and enthusiasm.
You can represent it through candles, lighting, triangular shapes, and colors like red, orange, and hot pink.

Earth - Stability, Grounding, Support
Earth is nurturing, steady, and supportive. It’s tied to health,  self-care and inner peace. Incorporate it through earthy tones ( terracotta, yellow, and sand), square shapes, ceramics, and stone materials.

Metal -Clarity, Precision, Focus
Metal enhances focus, discipline, and clear thinking. It helps cut through distraction and brings refinement and completion.
Represent it through white, gray, metallic finishes, round shapes, and metal objects or frames.

Water -Flow, Wisdom, Abundance
Water is the element of depth, intuition, and intelligence. It supports insight, flexibility, and abundance.
You can bring it in through mirrors, glass, wavy patterns, fountains, black or deep blue tones.

Now, with that foundation, here are Kelly’s top 5 Feng Shui tips to enhance the energy of your home:

Kelly's Top 5 Game-Changers

01.

Start with the Command Position
Kelly emphasizes placing your bed, desk, or stove in what’s called the “command position.” This means facing the entryway without being directly in line with the door. It promotes safety, ease, and empowerment, so you’re never caught off-guard by life (or people).

02.

Balance Your Elements
Every room benefits from a thoughtful mix of the five elements. Start with one or two that reflect the room’s purpose, and layer in the others through color, shape, and material. For instance, a home office may benefit from wood (growth) and metal (clarity), while a bedroom leans into earth (grounding) and water (restoration).

03.

 Clear Clutter to Invite Chi
Nothing blocks energy faster than clutter. Kelly recommends being intentional with what stays and what goes, especially in areas like under your bed, behind doors, and inside overstuffed drawers. When you create physical space, energetic flow follows.

04.

05.

Create an Inviting Front Door
The front door is known as the "mouth of chi" and should open with ease. This is very important to consider, as it is where energy(chi) enters your home. Create an inviting space by making it visible, clean and clear of clutter. Chose a color that you resonate with using the five element concept to create an intention.

Let Nature In
Kelly advocates for biophilic design; bringing nature into the home. Plants, sunlight, fresh air, and organic textures all nourish the energy of a space. Even a single potted plant or woven material can invite more calm, connection, and vitality.

Elements balanced…

Real Talk
At Saga Interiors, we believe your home should support the life you want to live. This collaboration with Kelly Nguyen Davlos brings together beauty and balance, showing us that design goes far beyond what meets the eye. It’s energetic. It’s personal. It’s powerful.

I’ve walked into stunning rooms that felt cold and lifeless, and I’ve stepped into simple spaces that felt like a deep exhale. The difference was energy. When a home flows, you feel it. It’s not about following rules or making things “perfect.” It’s about creating a place that holds you; where you sleep more soundly, work with more ease, and feel a sense of peace the moment you step through the door.

At the end of the day, it’s about creating a home that truly enhances your every day; one that offers balance, alignment, and the perfect energetic flow, allowing you to fully relax and let your guard down the moment you walk in.

Ready to bring more alignment and flow into your space? We’d love to help you create a home that not only looks beautiful, but feels deeply supportive of the life you’re building.
