1. WALLS
Choose high quality satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss standard paint since these are less likely to trap mold and are easier to clean than flat finishes. Play with color options virtually, but as a rule of thumb, choose lighter colors for smaller bathrooms, or get more creative with darker colors for a guest bathroom.
Install wallpaper only if your bathroom is well ventilated. If fully covering your bathroom with wallpaper sounds overwhelming, create a beautiful accent wall behind the toilet or sink instead.
Framed art is a great way to bring a ton of interest into your bathroom. Especially if you have old frames from your primary rooms you no longer use, don’t throw them away, give them a fresh coat of paint and upcycle them. You can order beautiful and affordable prints online. One of my favorites I have mentioned in previous blogs is Minted!
2. HARDWARE
Switching out your shower head, shower rod, bathtub faucets, sink faucet, and towel rods are great ways to modernize and update your bathroom. Mix metals for an on-trend look or stick to a classic single finish. Opt for high quality finishes so you don’t end up with rusted rods.
3. FLOORS
Start with a deep clean, which may include removing and replacing dirty tile grout. If you have a steady hand, this is the perfect DIY project to freshen up your tiles. Once you’re happy with the results, choose a rug to center and balance your bathroom for a softer ambiance or add a vibrancy with a vintage rug.
5. MIRROR
Switch out your outdated mirror, and especially medicine cabinets for a new gorgeous mirror; maybe try a round or oval for a more modern feel
6. BATHTUB
Rather than replacing your older bathtub entirely, reglaze it. This one does require hiring a professional but it is much cheaper than a full replacement.
7. LIGHT FIXTURES
Lighting is everything in a bathroom. Create a stunning transformation just by swapping out outdated fixtures for one that adds so much design interest and glow!
8. SHOWER CURTAINS
Hanging new shower curtains will instantly give your bathroom a facelift. If your bathroom is on the smaller side, choose a white or off-white solid color or one with minimal patterns.
9. KEEP IT SIMPLE
This goes without saying; unclutter your counterspace! What to keep: A set of candles, hand towels, liquid soap and lotion dispensers. Easy on the eye and makes every day cleaning a breeze.
These are some effective low-cost solutions to updating your bathroom without breaking a wall or the bank. The best part is you can make these changes overtime so you will always have access to a fully functional bathroom.
