As an initial step, I had the room painted in “Intimate White” from Sherwin Williams. This is such beautiful and soft color and helped create an inviting and cozy space. As a fun, eye-catchingdetail, I had one of the walls painted with chalkboard paint with an outline of a roof top with a chimney.
The pieces of furniture I chose were not only beautiful but also multifunctional and they allowed for lots of storage space. For instance, the “Kids play table set” has a reversible table top with a chalkboard on one side, storage underneath and natural wood on the other. Additionally, the “Kallax” storage unit from IKEA is very versatile, by adding drawers and door inserts I was able to maximize the storage space. My favorite storage bin of all time is the “Stripes around the bin” from Land of Nod, not only do they add a fun print and pattern to any space, but they are durable and can hold a lot of toys. I also fell in love with the new Pottery Barn Kids collection “Emily & Meritt Pom Pom Canvas “ baskets which we decided to include for even more storage.
My client had requested an inspirational wall for their daughter. I ordered the beautiful gold foil prints from Etsy and framed them myself with “White Gallery Frames” rom Michael’s. These frames can easily make any print look beautiful and elegant. The additional decor pieces I got were from Target’s Pillowfort collection. The “BE YOU” wired sign allowed for the wall color to seep through and the arrows added a hint of color to the otherwise neutral room.
We had some challenges getting a ceiling light fixture installed, so instead I added a floor lamp. I chose the “Cosmos Floor Lamp “ from Land of Nod, which is even more breathtaking when you turn on as it casts a warm glow and brings out the delightful wall color. The floor lamp’s brass metal frame complements the room decor and the added benefit is that the orbs are made out of plastic which makes it child friendly.
Another challenge I was faced with was to incorporate the storage units that my client valued in a way that didn’t clash with the rest of the decor. The storage units were in a dark wood while the other pieces of furniture were white. Initially, I was contemplating painting theses storage units white and having the seat cushions reupholstered with a different fabric but I decided against this. Instead, I kept the storage units’ original color and replaced the seat cushion that belonged to the unit, with two 20”x 20” pillows with IKEA’s “GURLI” cushion covers. The storage units were then complemented with the storage bins in bright pink. The storage units that had previously been challenging to integrate were now used as comfy window seating and allowed for even more storage!
As a final touch, the “Peraza Hand-Tufted” area rug from Wayfair truly brought the room together and grounded the rest of the pieces in the room.
I hope you guys enjoy the finished product as much as I do.
